Marisa Hart

Player #4

When you hear Marisa’s (aka Moose, Mar) name called on your line you breathe a sigh of relief. Conscientious offence and relentless defence make her an asset on the field no matter who’s in possession of the disc. Not to mention the multitude of things she organizes off the field to keep Zen running strong and smooth. Did we mention she can also huck like a beast?

People talking:
Mar is a force on the field and a powerhouse of a teammate. When she is not coming down with crazy grabs, burning her matchup, or throwing a massive huck, she is running the team.

Couldn’t attend practice? Mar is taking notes and videos. Low on funds? There’s 3 fundraising initiatives already in place. Outdated profile picture? She’s got the hookup. And if you just need a hug or a smile, she’s got it in spades.

“Can you believe she’s not 5’10?!”

“She allwayyyss chooses the toughest match up and dominates.”

“There’s a photo of Marisa rushing the field after a big play, and it’s my favourite photo of her because it embodies all that she is, her warmth and selflessness.”

Number: 4

Is there significance behind your number?
4 has been my go to number since I started playing sports back in the day when I played rec soccer with the boys!

Position:
Cutter

What do you bring to the team?
I like to believe I am a pretty outgoing and positive person. I like to make new friends, and hopefully that helps with team cohesion. On the field, I like to use my speed to capitalize on continuation plays, especially if it lands me in the endzone!

Previous Experience:
This one time I attended CUC 2012 on Bushfire… we lost every game, BUT, I was awarded MVP in our game against Wild Rose (Alberta).

Current Team(s):
Royale with Cheese (Monday West)
Flying Deuces (Wednesday West)

Nickname(s):
Moose & Mar

Do you have a pre/post game ritual or any other superstitions?
I always try to apply sunscreen in the morning when I’m getting dressed, that way I get all of the spots!

Least Favourite/ Favourite Fitness:
My favourite fitness drills include sprint intervals, I mean, they really take it out of me, so I assume they are working!

Favourite Pump-up Song:
I don’t really have one for ultimate, but I used to replay “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore when training for bike races. Has a good chorus for climbing hills.

What is your favourite TUC League/ Team to play on? Why?
Royale with Cheese or TPL!

What teammate do you admire and why?
This is a tough one! So, I’m going to mention a couple names…

Granny – Granny is one of the reasons why I chose to play with Zen.  If you know Granny, then you know why… if not… I first played against her in Women’s Winter Indoor, where she made playing look effortless. Her cuts are fierce and impossible to defend, her ability to switch roles is seamless, and her mindset is focused and calm. She is a great leader and provides a perfect balance as one of our Zen Captains.

Mason – SMF asked me what my goals were this year, in which I responded, “I want to become a better handler and to be able to fill into that role if necessary.” She then asked who I could look to on Zen for inspiration… I quickly scanned the field (to where Zen was practicing) and picked out Mason. What I didn’t know at that time was all of Mason’s other attributes that I’ve come to admire – he is a force to reckon with on defense and throws out huge layout D’s – after a D, he is composed and doesn’t rush the play – during a contested call he is calm and well versed – he is knowledgeable and offers quality feedback – and most of all, his humor is always on point.

Lastly, I want to send a shout out to Travis, Patrick, Darrel & Jacqui – It’s hard to bunch people together, but these 4 teammates are pretty special to me. Before Zen, I only knew these individuals from playing against them in various leagues (minus Patrick… he’s was a complete stranger) but now we’ve become really good friends. These 4 not only take on their own Zen initiatives, but also give me constant support with whatever tasks I’ve accepted despite whatever is going on in their own lives or how busy they may be. Finally, I can always rely on them to listen to me and provide positive and constructive feedback! Thanks guys!

Is there any specific moment/ drill/ game that you consider a highlight of the season so far?
There have been multiple highlights, but as a team, our game vs Union at Regionals was amazing! If we can just take that same mentality & performance to our next Raft game, I might change this answer…
