Veronica is known for her versatility. She uses her height to her advantage and makes up distance with her long strides. She works as hard as any gazelle on throwing. She has such a brilliant smile which is most often spotted when she’s just swatted the disc away from her mark on an in-cut and is about to turn on the jets to collect the other half of the book ends downfield. I’m convinced it’s when she’s at her happiest. D,V! D……, D, V! D……, D, V! D the sideline/crowd roars. Vee has a great arsenal of throws and is very patient and technically sound. She has adapted to her role on the D line and is really coming into her own just in time for CUC in Saskatoon.

The dictionary defines ‘Veronica’ as “any handkerchief, veil, or cloth bearing a representation of the face of Christ.” and that is certainly how we feel about V! If you ask her about it though she gets defensive. She is always defensive. She is a defensive machine! Guarding as well as any gazelle, often much better as they have a poor concept of strategy. A definite point of separation between V and gazelles as a whole.
If we could all work as hard on our game as V works on practicing layouts we would all be covered in bruises and very impressive. A quiet stoicism on the field, and a strong aversion to rain, V has been a staple force behind Zen’s D line but is also ever-ready to thr-O down at the drop of a hat or turn of the disc. #vimpressive #dvd #leadbyexample

Is there significance behind your number?
My parents used to bring me to the racetracks as a kid. I would always bet on “4” and “7” though the numbers were insignificant then. Does that make them significant now?

Jacqui and I have a dope Party franchise where we play with all our favourite people. You’ll find some of us playing Wednesday league or at fun tournaments when we’re not away with Zen.

I love our relay drills and hate individual interval sprints.
Favourite Pump-up Song:
It was Cassie’s enthusiasm and love for the sport that led me to Ultimate. I have adopted her Ultimate song, “Roar” by Katy Perry, as my own.
What is your favourite TUC League/ Team to play on? Why?
Party in Room 906 and all its variations! Competitive ultimate with my favourite people. Blackout also has a special place in my heart as my first real team.
What teammate do you admire and why?
Oh man, I’m going to cheat and circle back… I’m so glad to be touring with so many Blackout alums this year; they consistently inspire and push me to be a better player.
I remember coming back from traveling to Kat’s first year with Zen, and being stunned by her growth and wondering how I can move the disc like her. It was also then that I met Jacqui. It’s a bit. People confuse us now. But her determination and grit on the field is unmistakable. And I like to joke that we poached Mason before he could meet better people. Now he’s trapped and I want him leading all my teams because he leads by example.
Josh and DeWolfes are the newest players to the Blackout family. Josh rises above all the uncontrollable things of the game. I play my best game by watching him play his. Nothing seems to rattle Julie and Travis. I depend on them to raise me up when I’m down, and ground me when I spiral.
But if I had to choose one, I choose Hugo. I met him shortly after I started playing. It’s been such a treat to play alongside him since. He’s the most unassuming player on the line, and the player I’d always want on the line with me. He only knows how to play at 100%, at all levels of play. He doesn’t think he’s too good for less competitive teams. You’d never see him give up on a disc. You’d never see him get angry. You are spoiled throwing to him. He rewards you for your cuts. He comes down with all sorts of garbage, on O and on D. And he’s just an all-around good human being. Be more like Hugo.
